Work Experience

UCSC ASSIST Labs, Santa Cruz — Graduate Research Lead

September 2022 – Present

  • Prototyped multiple research grade Unity projects under the direction of our stakeholders. 

  • Trained a team of undergraduates to use Unity and conduct research.

  • Created a VR game under the direction of an ophthalmologist that improved patients near vision by 6-7 letter grades on a LogMAR chart. 

  • Conducted and transcribed interviews with clinicians to collect qualitative data on the system. 

  • Designed survey to collect qualitative data from patients. 

  • Collaborated with a team of researchers to design and conduct the study, and co-authored a research paper on the results. 

  • Worked with clinicians to aid in writing papers around the use of AI in medicine.

  • Presented the work at the 2022 IEEE 10th International Conference on Serious Games and Applications for Health (SeGAH). https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9978582 

  • Co-authored conference paper that was presented at AccessIOT 2023 in Nagoya Japan. (Pending final publication)

  • Developed a multi-sensory VR game with a team of undergraduate students that uses an olfactory display, as team lead and lead developer.

  • Conducted independent research on the intersection of ADHD and technology use with a team of undergraduate students.

UCSC ASSIST Labs, Santa Cruz — Undergraduate Research Lead

June 2021– August 2022

  • Managed a team of undergraduates to help them achieve their research goals. 

  • Implemented a task tracking system through weekly meetings along with a presentation to ensure that projects were done in a timely manner. 

  • Conducted a pilot study on the use of 3D geospatial interaction in immersive virtual reality to visualize and understand COVID-19 spread. 

  • Developed a VR application that displayed real-time data on COVID-19 cases and allowed users to explore and interact with the data in a 3D world. 

  • Created a pipeline in C# that took in a JSON file and populated the data into the VR globe

  • Completed the project within 3 months. 

  • Collaborated with a team of researchers to design and conduct the study, and co-authored a research paper on the results. 

  • Presented the work at the 2021 IEEE 9th International Conference on Serious Games and Applications for Health (SeGAH).

UCSC ASSIST Labs, Santa Cruz — Undergraduate Research Assistant

January 2020 – June 2021

  • Rapidly learned Python and used the MuJoCo Py library to create a simulation that informed exosuit design. 

  • Built in data visualization functions using Matplot to analyze and interpret the simulation data. 

  • Collaborated with a team of researchers to develop and test the simulation, and co-authored a conference paper on the results. 

  • Presented the work at the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP).
